Okay, so you’ve been on a mission to develop and implement a management system to ISO 9001:2008 – only to find out that a new Standard is about to be released in September 2015.
What do you do?
The answer is simple: continue on the path that you are on.
The certifications industry understands that people are using the current standard. They give us all a little time to transition to it. For a year after the publication of the 2015 version –currently slated for September 2015 — Platinum will be able to assess your system to the 2008 Standard. This way, you will have another couple of years to upgrade to the 2015 version, so there is no need to sweat!
If you’ve only been thinking about developing and implementing your management system to ISO 9001:2008 and you haven’t really started yet, then you should continue to define your processes within your business, but get a copy of the Final Draft International Standard (FDIS)for the new 2015 Standard and perform your gap analysis to that version.
It will be a more efficient use of your resources to proceed with the 2015 Standard than to continue with the 2008 Standard. As an added bonus, the 2015 Standard is less prescriptive giving you more flexibility in your approach and documented system structure.
